Chicken Cordon Bleu Burger
Serves 4
INGREDIENTS
1 1/2 pounds ground chicken
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon onion powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
1/4 teaspoon thyme
1 egg, lightly beaten
1/4 seasoned breadcrumbs
1 shallot, sliced
1 tablespoon canola oil
4 medium slices cooked ham
4 slices gruyere cheese (about1/2 pound)
Freshly ground black pepper for top of cheese
4 tablespoons Dijon mustard
1 teaspoon red wine vinegar
4 tablespoons mayonnaise
Pinch salt and pepper
1 loaf French bread, split, cut for 4 hamburgers
DIRECTIONS
Place chicken in a large bowl and add in garlic powder, onion powder, salt, pepper, thyme, egg, and breadcrumbs. Form meat in to 4 equal size oval patties and place indentation in center of burger. (Oval patties will fit better in long french bread)
Pan fry the patties in a skillet with 1 tablespoon of oil over medium heat for approximately 5-6 minutes. Flip the burgers. Add shallots to pan and cook the burgers another 3-4 minutes. Top burgers with cooked shallots, ham and cheese and let cook another 2 minutes or until cheese has melted. Add freshly ground pepper on top of cheese.
Mix together the mustard, vinegar and the mayonnaise. Add a pinch of salt and pepper. Reserve half of spread for dipping Pomme Frittes.
Spread mustard mixture on inside top of bread. Place burgers in bread.
