Cuban Burger
Serves 4
INGREDIENTS
3/4 pounds lean ground beef
3/4 pounds ground pork
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
4 slices thinly sliced ham
8 slices Swiss cheese
8 pieces sliced dill sandwich pickles
1/2 cup low fat mayonnaise
1/4 cup Dijon mustard
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
Salt and pepper to taste for spread
4 Kaiser rolls, split
DIRECTIONS
Mix the ground beef and ground pork together. Form the meat in to 4 patties and place an indentation in the top center of each patty. Season the meat with salt and pepper on both sides and cook in a saute pan over high heat to medium doneness, about 4-5 per side.
Combine the mayonnaise, garlic powder, and Dijon mustard in a small bowl and season with salt and pepper, to taste.
Spread both sides of each Kaiser roll with dijon/mayonnaise.
Place a slice of cheese on the bottom portion of each bun, place the burger on top of the cheese, then top the burger with a slice of ham then another slice of cheese then the pickle slices. Place the tops of the bun over the pickles and cook on a sandwich press. Cook until golden brown and cheese has melted.
If you do not have a sandwich press, place sandwich in a very hot skillet and press down with a spatula for about 2 minutes. Flip and repeat until bread is well toasted.
