In all of the easy ground meat recipes listed on this site, the recommended ground meat choice is included, but you may choose to alter that based on your own personal preference or diet. This site provides recipes for traditional favorites as well as new modern recipes using ground meat.



GROUND BEEF

Hamburger Meat: When ground beef is labeled as hamburger, it may have fat added to the meat. ( in addition to the fat found in the meat) Hamburger can have as much as 30% fat by weight. This is the fattiest type of ground beef. Before of all the additives, I do not recommend this type of meat because it is lacking in taste, high in fat and calories, and full of additives.


75% Ground Beef has 25% fat by weight. It is the very inexpensive compared to the leanest ground beef. I do not recommend this type of ground beef because of the fat content but if you choose to use this meat for your next meal, drain the meat after browning to reduce fat content.

80% Ground Beef is generally called ground chuck. This meat has 20% fat content. This meat is very tasty and often said to be the best choice for a hamburger. This meat is equally good with ALL of the ground beef recipes on this site.

Saturated Fat: 5.5 grams
Calories: 235



85% Ground Beef meat has 15% fat content. Similar to 80% ground beef, this meat is very tasty and also a great choice for any ground beef recipe on this site.

90% Ground Beef is a great overall choice for most any recipe. There is enough fat content to keep the meat moist and the taste is not compromised. This meat has 10% fat content. The meat is often labeled ground round. I recommend using this meat when seeking lower fat hamburgers and with recipes that include ingredients that offer additional moisture such as in chili, casseroles, stuffed peppers, Italian baked recipes, and Mexican recipes. This is my first pick for all of my easy ground meat recipes where using beef.

90% Ground Beef per 4 ounce serving (raw):

Saturated Fat: 4.0 grams

96% Ground Beef has only 4% fat by weight and is labeled as ground sirloin. It is the most expensive ground meat. Highly recommended for use in these easy ground meat recipes if watching your waste line and this meat it is very tasty too.

Saturated Fat: 1.7 – 2.3 grams

GROUND TURKEY

Ground turkey can have anywhere from 1% - 17% fat content. Ground turkey with high fat content has more dark meat grinded in where as the lower fat ground poultry is ground up white meat.

The most common ground turkey sold is 93% percent which means that there is 7% fat content in the ground poultry. This is a good choice if you want to reduce saturated fat intake. You can use this meat in hamburgers and many other recipes. If ground turkey is your choice of met, ground turkey can be substituted in any easy ground meat recipe on this site.

If you choose to use 99% ground poultry, which means there is only 1% fat content, use this in recipes that will provide added moisture to the turkey because this type of turkey meat is very dry. Although not recommended for hamburgers, try it with Mexican beef mixture, in chili or in a meatloaf where eggs are added and provide that necessary moisture.

GROUND CHICKEN

Ground chicken is generally available in 2 types. One type mixes both dark meat and white meat to provide the higher fat content. The other offering is 99% ground chicken which is ONLY white meat and much lower in fat. 99% ground chicken will not make very good hamburgers because there is not enough fat to keep the burger moist but you can use this ground chicken in chili and recipes that have lots of tomato sauce which will keep the meat from tasting dry. 99% ground chicken is a good choice in easy ground meat recipes if looking to lower fat in your diet.

GROUND PORK

Ground pork has lots of flavor and can be used in most any recipe in lieu of ground beef. Take any favorite recipe, prepare with ground pork, and the dish will taste completely different. I recommend using ground pork in easy ground meat recipes for hamburgers, chili, Italian meals and in stuffed peppers.

GROUND LAMB

Ground Lamb is an excellent choice with meals with Mediterranean flavors with ingredients such as mint, oregano, dill, tomatoes, spinach, and feta cheese. Ground lamb can be used in many ways because there is enough fat content in the meat to hold up to most recipes.

GROUND BUFFALO

Ground buffalo meat has been increasing in popularity due to it becoming more available to consumers and because the ground meat is very lean and very low in fat. Although many people eat them as hamburgers, It is full of taste and can be used with lots of vegetables to add flavor and texture.

Saturated Fat: 0 grams
