Southwestern Fajita Burger
Serves 4
INGREDIENTS
1 1/4 - 1 1/2 pounds ground beef
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon onion powder
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1/2 teaspoon paprika
1 teaspoon parsley
1 teaspoon ground cumin
1/2 teaspoon chili powder
1 tablespoon chopped fresh cilantro
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1 medium onion sliced thin
1/2 green pepper, sliced thin and halved
1/2 red pepper thinly sliced
2 tablespoons Canola oil (divided)
4 slices cheddar cheese
1 cup shredded iceberg lettuce
1 cup prepared salsa
Prepared Guacamole or recipe follows
4 kaiser roll, slit open or 4 flour tortillas
DIRECTIONS
Mix together the ground beef, garlic powder, onion powder, oregano, paprika, parsley, cumin, chili powder, cilantro, salt and pepper together but do not overwork. Form the meat in to 4 patties and place an indentation in the top center of each patty.
Heat remaining canola oil in a frying pan on medium heat. Add the onions, green peppers, and red peppers to the pan and sauté about 5-7 minutes until onions are opaque. Turn up the heat to high and allow edges of vegetables to begin to turn brown without burning them. Remove and set aside.
Heat another tablespoon of canola oil and turn the heat to medium high and pan fry the burgers approximately 3-4 minutes on first side. Flip the burger and pan fry another 2 minutes. The burgers may also be grilled in lieu of pan frying.
Top each burger with a slice of cheese and cook another 1-2 minutes until burger is medium rare or to your desired doneness. Remove the burgers and set each burger on to the bottom of a kaiser roll or tortilla. Top each burger with the onion and pepper mix.
Top burger with lettuce, salsa and guacamole.
Note : This Fajita Burger recipe can easily be substituted with ground turkey or ground chicken.
