Make a Delicious French Canadian Meat Pie Tonight!
This
French Canadian Meat Pie
is easy to make. Using pre made pie crust, this comforting all in one pie makes a great meal. This is often served in Canada for Christmas, my family enjoys it all year around.
French Canadian Meat Pie
Serves 6
INGREDIENTS
1 1/2 pounds ground pork
3/4 cup diced onion
2 celery ribs, chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1/4 cup low sodium beef broth
2 medium sized potatoes
1/2 teaspoon rosemary
1/2 teaspoon thyme
1/4 teaspoon sage
salt and pepper to taste
Pastry for double crust pie
1 egg white, beaten
DIRECTIONS
Heat the oven to 375 degrees F.
Boil the potatoes in water until soft as if making mashed potatoes. (about 20-25 minutes) Mash the potatoes. (do not add milk or butter)
In a large skillet, brown the ground pork, onion, celery and garlic over medium heat until meat is no longer pink.
Stir in to the meat mixture the mashed potatoes, beef broth and the seasonings. Add salt and pepper to taste.
Spray two a pie pan with non stick spray. Place one of the pastry rounds in to the pie pan. Add the meat mixture. Top the meat mix with the remaining pastry. Seal edges.
Cut slits in top of pastry. Brush the pastry with the egg whites.
Bake for 30-35 minutes or until pastry is golden brown. Allow to rest 10 minutes prior to cutting.
