Stove Top Salisbury Steak
Serves 4-6
INGREDIENTS
2-3 cups sliced mushrooms
1 tablespoon butter
Pinch black pepper
2 tablespoons canola oil (divided)
2 cloves diced garlic
1 1/2 pounds lean ground beef or turkey
1 medium size onion, grated with grater
1 tablespoon Montreal steak seasoning
1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
1 teaspoon dried parsley
2 teaspoons Worchester sauce
1 egg
1/3 cup seasoned breadcrumbs
2 cups low sodium beef broth
1/4 cup water
2 tablespoons flour
DIRECTIONS
Heat 1 tablespoon oil in frying pan to medium heat. Add the mushrooms. Stir mushrooms occasionally to prevent burning. After about 5-6 minutes, add in the butter and garlic. Cook another minute or two and stir to prevent garlic from burning. Add a pinch of black pepper. Remove mushrooms from pan and set aside.
Mix together the remaining ingredients with the exception of the beef broth and flour. Mix well but do not overwork. Form patties in to 6- 8 patties (similar to thick hamburgers)
Heat frying pan to medium high heat and add in remaining oil. Pan fry the meat patties for approximately 4-5 minutes, then flip and cook another 3-5 minutes. Lower heat to medium low and add beef broth and water. Simmer for about 10-15 minutes. Remove 1 cup of broth from pan and mix with flour. Mix until there are no longer any lumps and add in to the pan, whisking in as you add. Simmer another 2-3 minutes.
Serve with creamy mashed potatoes and good dipping bread to soak up all the sauce.
