Sloppy Joe Casserole
recipe is a delicious take on the
Skillet Sloppy Joes Recipe
. Instead of serving as a sandwich, this becomes an inexpensive cassserole meal that is a potluck favorite or serve to the family for dinner. Becuase the meat takes a while to simmer, I'll prepare the meat on sunday. Just reheat the meat and bake for a quick monday night meal.
Sloppy Joe Casserole
Serves 4-6
INGREDIENTS
1 1/2 pounds lean ground beef or ground turkey
1 small onion, chopped
1/2 green bell pepper, chopped
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
1 tablespoon prepared yellow mustard
1 1/4 cup ketchup
8 ounces crushed tomato or canned spaghetti sauce
1 tablespoon Worchester sauce
1 1/2 tablespoons brown sugar
Salt and black pepper to taste
1 cup shredded cheese
1 (7.5 ounce ) refridgerated biscuits ( 8-10 total)
DIRECTIONS
In a medium skillet over medium heat brown the meat, onion and green pepper. Drain the fat.
Stir in the garlic powder, Italian seasoning, mustard, ketchup, tomato sauce, Worchester sauce and brown sugar. Add salt and pepper to taste. Reduce heat, and simmer for 60 minutes.
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees.
Spray a 9" x 13" casserole pan with non stick spray. Place Sloppy Joe casserole mix in the pan. Top the meat mixture with cheddar cheese. Top with the uncooked biscuits.
Bake uncovered in the oven for 15 minutes or until biscuits are golden brown.
Serve with coleslaw for a complete meal.
